GitHub integration also gives Copilot a practical edge for teams already using issues, pull requests, and code review on GitHub. PR summaries are not a replacement for review, but they are handy when a change includes generated files, fixture updates, or a long list of small edits. The same is true for code review suggestions: I treat them as hints, not verdicts, but they occasionally catch missing null checks or awkward duplication.
The Parts That Still Need Supervision
Copilot can be too eager with common patterns. It sometimes suggests outdated library APIs because the surrounding code looks similar to examples it has seen before. In a React project, I have seen it reach for a hook pattern that the repo had already moved away from. In Java, it may generate a clean-looking service method that ignores the transaction boundary used everywhere else.
The context model is also narrower than an AI-native editor. Copilot has improved codebase awareness, but it still feels strongest when the answer is close to the active file. For multi-package changes, I expect to guide it file by file. That is not a dealbreaker; it just means Copilot works best as acceleration, not delegation.
Privacy and policy settings deserve a real admin pass before team rollout. Copilot Business and Enterprise give organizations more controls, but developers still need to avoid pasting secrets into prompts and should understand how public code suggestions, telemetry settings, and company policies are configured.

The individual paid plan has historically been one of Copilot’s best arguments because it costs less than many AI editors.
